On Nature’s Oils

Nature holds the key to everything, including our beauty.
Oils such as the popular coconut and argan are extracted from their plant sources with simple and minimal processing for our use. Filled with vitamins and proteins, the oils in their pure forms, used on our skin and hair, nourish and provide maximum health benefits and zero to minimum exposure to toxins.
Some of my favorites, rice bran oil, coconut oil, and sweet almond oil, used on their own or together provide luxurious and effective nourishment. These oils have been used throughout time, unadulterated, by ancient cultures around the world for health and beauty purposes.
Many beauty products are marketed as containing nature’s oils but often have a high percentage of other ingredients which serve other purposes such as: extending shelf life – as preservatives do, enhancing the color and appearance of the product, or offer temporary fixes. Silicones (most ingredients that end in ‘cone’) feel smooth to the touch and gives hair the appearance of health and shine. It can serve to give the hair a shiny and smooth look. However, silicone can be likened to a thin coating of plastic over our hair and skin which blocks any moisture from exiting or entering. No deep or true moisturizing is taking place, in fact, over time, it can do damage; the skin and hair are not allowed to breathe or function the way they were meant to.
Although a product may have essential and other natural oils, their effectiveness is diminished because of other ingredients which are not naturally found in nature and that may not serve the direct purpose of nourishing our skin and hair. These filler ingredients are often even harmful to the environment. Using products with simple, unadulterated ingredients help us to care for ourselves and our environment.
